Kenwood Cottage
Nestled at the north end of beautiful Sonoma Valley is the Kenwood Cottage. This charming 3,400 sq. ft. home offers a picturesque outdoor escape, featuring a swimming pool, back deck, and sweeping views of vineyards and mountains. This family of five, a long-time client of LND, currently owns a Victorian home in San Francisco but longed for a second home in the country, away from the hustle and bustle. The main goal was to create an inviting, cozy, and casual space focused on entertaining their little ones, friends, and family. It needed to be a space that could handle kids running around the backyard, jumping from the pool to the deck and back again.
To create this flow from outdoors to indoors, the main area of construction was the backside of the house, where the deck overlooks the pool and yard. Accordion doors were installed to fully open up the space, a larger outdoor patio and deck were constructed as well, and a trussed roof was created with no hardware—only 100% wood. Aside from the yard, many updates were made to the interior, including the kitchen and bedrooms. Along with the kitchen, each bedroom was re-designed with a specific theme in mind. By letting each room have its own personality, the home began to develop charm and character.
