The Cube | Laidley Street
FORMA Construction placed ‘The Cube,’ a 10’x10’x10’ mirrored structure, tastefully in the terraced landscape of our client’s backyard. As an example of accessory space construction, this mirrored structure reflects the surrounding landscape, sky, and views from the house and lower yard levels, creating a mysterious and dynamic sculptural object. Inside, the cube transforms into a circular, drum-shaped space with an oculus that opens to the sky.
Reinforced fiberglass forms The Cube, allowing the oculus to taper to a sharp knife-edge. A crane lifted the structure into place in five pieces, showcasing precise accessory space construction techniques. Afterward, workers applied the exterior and interior finishes. Precast concrete seating with integrated heating lines fills the interior, while white marker-board covers the walls, and felt lines the ceiling. Designed for intimate ideation, conversations, and contemplation, this space offers a unique retreat.
