Bombay Speakeasy

Hidden among the trees of Woodside, this 2,500-square-foot lower level was originally a flooded basement until FORMA Construction and ABH Interiors transformed it into a cinematic, hospitality-grade experience. What started as a remediation project quickly evolved into a bold redesign, turning the space into a multifunctional entertaining suite inspired by the mood and detail of a Mumbai speakeasy and a British members club.

The renovation involved a complete gut and reconfiguration of the space, incorporating custom millwork, lighting, and finishes throughout. Indigo-painted walls anchor the design, which centers on a showstopping ceiling: wood beams form a geometric grid, with each inset alcove hand-finished in copper leaf and lit from above to cast a warm, ambient glow. Beneath it, a 20-foot custom banquette wraps around a walnut and brass coffee table, creating space for cocktails or conversation.

The bar area showcases custom steel and glasswork, white marble surfaces with ogee edges, and cabinetry finished in high-gloss blue lacquer. Dark walnut floors laid in a chevron pattern anchor the space, while an adjacent media room conceals a projector and screen behind integrated panels.

The powder room is adorned with golden, rust-dyed silk wallpaper, setting the stage for a glowing backlit quartzite sink, constructed with a custom LED substructure and paired with a walnut-framed mirror. Throughout, the client’s Indian heritage is subtly referenced in the rich jewel tones, silk wall coverings, and antique furnishings dating back to the early 1900s
