Lower Nob Hill | San Francisco
Perched above downtown San Francisco, this Beaux-Arts aerie holds a rich history and was in need of a complete historic home renovation. FORMA Construction, in collaboration with Red Dot Studio, undertook a total gut renovation of the 1,800-square-foot apartment located in the historic Belgravia, a pre-war building in Lower Nob Hill.
Our approach focused on respecting the building’s past while blending irreverence and restraint. Drawing inspiration from the 1913 Beaux-Arts architecture, we preserved its elaborate details, such as carved marble baseboards and intricate wood ceiling trim. We subtly adjusted the original layout and carefully restored the molding, trim, and finishes. This historic home renovation included updates to the kitchen, baths, master suite, closets, and library. We strategically added wallpaper, including on the ceiling, and created a study and bar with a blue lacquered built-in. A wall of silvered mirror added a unique touch, making the home perfectly suited to our clients’ vision.
