New Project Underway in Pacific Heights

Normandie Terrace is a short cul-de-sac off Vallejo Street in San Francisco’s Pacific Heights. It arrived later than much of the surrounding neighborhood. In 1936, the City built a retaining wall and terrace stairs, opening the hillside for development. The first houses were built between 1937 and 1941, with the rest completed by 1950, forming a small planned group of single-family homes within an older, established district.

FORMA and Butler Armsden Architects are now in the early stages of renovating one of these houses.

Over the past month, the team has mobilized on-site and installed scaffolding around the building. These platforms are designed to be enclosed with shrink wrap, creating a contained environment for exterior demolition and envelope work along each face of the house.

Inside, crews are moving methodically through each level, stripping out what is no longer needed and leaving a clean base ready for structural adjustments and new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

The site is organized, circulation paths are clear, and the building is set up for the next phase of work. In future updates, we will follow key milestones, introduce new team members, and hear from ownership on the decisions that shape this project.
